The high school grounds were monitored pretty tightly. Officials stopped cars as they entered the school grounds and directed them where they needed to go. When you came into the high school building, there was a place to sign up (at the right). The area in the background, which serves as the school cafeteria in normal times, was used for all kinds of general purposes. During the day, when it was too hot for exhausted firefighters to sleep outside in their tents, they were bedded down in some of the school's air conditioned (and quiet) classrooms.
